Oakwood School for Boys, Stowmarket, Suffolk
We now have 72 claimants in this group. Oakwood School was open between 1974 and 2000 when it was closed suddenly. We are about to issue Group Litigation proceedings. The group is still open if you are an ex pupil who suffered abuse. If your claim is accepted we are offering No Win No Fee agreements with no payment up front required. Our letter before action in June 2011 prompted the Suffolk Police to commence Operation Oxenden investigating 18 alleged abusers. The Police investigation is on going.
Old Rectory/Banham Marshalls College, Banham, Norfolk
We have 96 claimants in this group of whom approximately half have now settled their claims and been awarded compensation. Old Rectory opened in 1974 and operated until 1992 when the school moved to larger premises and became known as Banham Marshalls College. The School closed in 2004 after a damning Ofsted report and a Police investigation into abuse. The owner manager George Robson and his brother Anthony Robson – known as Mr Thomas – were convicted of numerous child cruelty offences and sentenced in November and December 2007. We commenced Group Litigation proceedings on 8th August 2008. The group is still open for former pupils who suffered abuse.
Stowmarket Middle School Concert Band, Stowmarket, Suffolk
We presently have 6 claimants in this new group litigation. All were victims of music teacher and band leader Derek Cable. Mr Cable was convicted of 10 offences of indecent assault and 8 offences of gross indecency against 5 boys. In September 2003 he was jailed for 4 years.
Ellindon School, Bretton, Peterborough, Cambridgeshire
Over 140 former pupils have received compensation for abuse suffered at Ellindon with each receiving an average payout of £18,000 mostly for low level violence and ill treatment. Some pupils who were sexually abused received much higher damages. The group action is still ongoing with another 10 claims being negotiated.
Greystone Heath School, Warrington, Cheshire, Midfield Observation and Assessment Centre, Oakington, Cambridgeshire and Kneesworth House School, Royston, Herts
The infamous Keith Laverack worked in all these establishments between 1965 and 1988. Laverack was convicted in March 1997 and received 18 years imprisonment for numerous serious sexual offences against children in his care. Over 120 claimants have received compensation for the abuse they suffered. The action is ongoing. We presently have a small group of about 6 claims being negotiated.
